Project Overview
This project focused on enhancing cybersecurity incident response capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region by providing TRANSITS I trainings, fostering trust among stakeholders, and encouraging collaboration through CSIRT meetings. The initiative exceeded expectations by catalyzing the formation of multiple new CSIRTs and laying the groundwork for sustainable regional cybersecurity cooperation.
Beneficiary Countries
Project Objectives
Primary Goal: To build a trusted R&E cybersecurity network in Asia-Pacific by delivering security trainings and fostering cross-border collaboration for CSIRT development.
Sub-objectives
-
Create Self-Sufficient Trusted Network
Establish sustainable cybersecurity collaboration frameworks among regional institutions.
-
Provide State-of-the-Art Training
Deliver comprehensive TRANSITS I training modules to enhance incident response capabilities.
-
Enable Local Training
Develop train-the-trainer initiatives for sustainable knowledge transfer and capacity building.
Key Activities
-
TRANSITS I Training at APAN45 (Singapore)
Delivered full TRANSITS I modules for the first time to CSIRT personnel from TEIN*CC partner institutions, addressing the lack of affordable, practical incident response training in the R&E sector.
-
CSIRT in Asia Meeting (APAN45)
Brought together participants to share region-specific incident response experiences and build trusted communication channels with a closed mailing list and wiki space.
-
TRANSITS I Training at APAN46 (New Zealand)
Repeated the four-module TRANSITS I training with a new group of regional participants, expanding CSIRT knowledge and supporting local team formation.
-
Introduction to Risk Management Course
Additional module developed by expert trainer Alf Moens, addressing foundational risk management principles based on participant interest.
-
Trust Building & Human-Centric Discussion
Session on "The Human Side of Trusted Services" by trainer Nicole Harris, promoting understanding of interpersonal dynamics in cybersecurity collaboration.
Key Outcomes
A new CSIRT team was launched by PERN, now engaging with FIRST and APCERT to support Pakistan's academic cybersecurity efforts through global collaboration and training.
LEARN created a CSIRT team following participation in the March 2018 CSIRT Capacity Building event, strengthening national cybersecurity within the academic sector.
Bangladesh (BdREN) and Malaysia's (MYREN) NRENs are in the process of forming CERT teams, supported by project-enabled training and expert networking.
Participants actively engaged through wiki and mailing list platforms, fostering continuous knowledge sharing and best practices exchange.
